Tag Punch Star Tutorial

I appreciate all the comments on this tutorial - I just wanted to remind everyone that this was not my idea, but came from Shadow Mill on www.splitcoaststamper.com. I did this tutorial for my customers and anyone else who wants to see this beautiful technique!! And I just had an email from a kind person who pointed out that this was also posted earlier on Kelly's Picasa web site here

Whoever created this technique originally deserves the credit and I give it to them. I did not create it, and this tutorial is for my own customers who saw this at my Stamp-A-Stack on Saturday. I was unaware of Kelly's tutorial, so wanted my customers to benefit from this amazing creation!!

I'm going to guide you through making the tag punch star I showed at my last two classes. I have fallen in love with them and want to share. I want to give credit to "Shadow Mill" on SCS for this wonderful new technique!!

You will need for this project:

Vellum
Ballet Blue Card Stock
2 Way Glue
Paper Snips
Large and Small Tag Punches

You can use any card stock or designer papers and I will show this made with different papers below

Step 1:

Punch out 16 small tag punches leaving space between each punch of about 1/4"

Step 2:

Frame the small cutout with your large tag punch and punch it out. you will now have 16 large frames

Step 3:

Take 4 of the frames and make a cross as shown above on vellum. Glue them down with the 2-way glue

Step 4:

Now take 4 more frames and offset them as shown above. Glue these down.

Step 5:

Now you are ready to cut. Take your paper snips and clip out each "square" piece into the center as above. You will end up having the star shape!! Neat, eh?

Step 6:

Follow Steps 1-5 making another star shape.

Now mount one star upon the other with dimensionals.

Finish your card

I used some ballet blue craft ink and stamped the star from True Friend (Holiday Mini Catalog) then embossed with clear embossing powder onto whisper white card stock. I mounted this piece in the center with dimensionals. I used Whisper White card stock for my card, and the little light blue flowers from Cutie Pie Designer Paper. I also stamped the stars from True Friend onto the whisper white card stock. I also mounted the star on the card with dimensionals.

Here are three more cards I made:

This first card uses Real Red for the backing and the card base. I used gold cardstock for the frames. I punched out a star with the star punch and used a pearl from the Pretties Kit in the center. I also punched out a 3/4" circle from the gold for under the star. Then I used the Dashing Designer Paper to mount the star on. I also embossed Happy Holidays from the Stamp Set Frosty in gold.

For this card I used whisper white card stock for the base and then added real red and another layer of whisper white. I cut the second WW so the red would show through on the diagonal. For the star I used Cerise designer paper for the base and real red for the frames. I then stamped the star from True Friend and adhered and half pearl from the Pretties Kit.

This last card is totally different and was actually the first one I tried. I was searching through my stock of paper and found this green piece of vellum. I used the green vellum for the star base adn whisper white fo rthe frames. I stamped the snow flake from "In the Spotlight" stamp set (hostess) and adhered it to the center of the star. I used Certainly Celery card stock with a layer of Always Artichoke and then Winter Designer Paper to set off the star.

If you decide to try this technique, please send me your card and I will put it up to share with everyone. I love all your creations too!!

And that goes for anything you would like to share. I'm looking forward to seeing Beth's turkeys when she gets them done!!

We hard our Christmas Stamp-A-Stack today. We made 15 cards - 5 different with three of each kind. I will post these cards tomorrow, plus others that I made to display.
